Best Breakfast in Fisherman's Village

Start your day with exceptional breakfast dining at GREENLIGHT Café, Koh Samui

Breakfast in Fisherman's Village, Served All Day

GREENLIGHT Café sits inside the old shophouse block of Fisherman's Village, about 20 metres back from Bophut Beach. The kitchen opens at 7:00 AM, breakfast service runs to 10:30 AM, and the All Day Breakfast section then stays on the menu right through to close at 10:00 PM. If your flight landed at two in the afternoon and what you want is shakshuka, that is a normal order here.

The cooking leans organic and plant-forward without being preachy about it. There is a proper fry-up on the menu, there is salmon on toast, and there is a whole page of things built out of coconut, quinoa, tofu and fruit. Nothing on the breakfast list is over THB 320.

  • Thirteen dishes on the All Day Breakfast list, THB 240 to 320
  • Gluten-free banana pancakes and gluten-free wraps as standard
  • Five plant-based breakfasts plus five vegan smoothie bowls
  • Almond, soy, oat and coconut milk on the coffee bar
  • A minute's walk from the beach and the Walking Street

Gluten-Free and Vegan Breakfast in Fisherman's Village

This is the question we get asked most, so here it is in plain terms rather than as a footnote. The banana pancakes are gluten-free as they come. So are the shakshukas, the breakfast quinoa and the smoothie bowls if you skip the granola topping. Later in the day, the entire wrap section of the menu is built on gluten-free wraps.

On the plant-based side: tofu scramble on toast, avocado toast, mushrooms on toast, coconut oatmeal, breakfast quinoa and all five superfood smoothie bowls are vegan, and the coffee bar carries four plant milks. Guests staying with us can take the vegan or gluten-free version of the breakfast add-on at the same price as the rest.

Say what you need when you order. The kitchen is small enough that the person cooking your food hears it directly.

Where We Are, and When to Come

We are at 3/28 Moo 1, Bo Put, inside the Fisherman's Village block and roughly 20 metres back from Bophut Beach — under a minute on foot, which we would rather say than call ourselves beachfront. Bophut faces northwest and the water is calm year-round, so the beach in the morning is quiet and swimmable before the day heats up.

In high season the tables between 8:30 and 10:00 AM fill up. Before 8:30 you will usually walk straight in. On Friday mornings the village is at its calmest, because the whole street is being set up for the evening Walking Street market — worth knowing if you want photographs of the shophouses without a crowd in them.

Parking is available on site at 40 baht per hour; on Friday afternoons the village parking fills from around 4:30 PM, so morning is the easy time to drive in. New to the area? Our guide to Fisherman's Village covers the market, the beach and getting here.

Yes. Do you need to book breakfast?

No reservation is needed for breakfast. In high season the tables between 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM fill up, so arrive before 8:30 AM if you want a quiet one.

Is breakfast included if I stay at GREENLIGHT?

Breakfast is an optional add-on at THB 680 per person rather than being bundled into the room rate, and it covers Tinglish, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and Asian versions. Rooms can also be booked without it.
